PHONE, EMAIL, WRITE OR FAX THE EPC REGARDING THE GATES SCHOOL (SUNSET LANE)

Dear Lutz Neighbor,

Last night's EPC community meeting was very interesting to say the least. The meeting was held in response to the overwhelming number of letters, emails, phone calls, and faxes from YOU, Lutz residents, demanding that this project be designated as one of "heightened public concern".

If you attended the meeting, you heard the Director of the EPC, Dr. Garrity, state that he WANTS to hear from the community about whether, and why, they should approve or DENY Gates' request to impact the wetlands for an easement to Hwy. 41.

The reason the meeting was postponed until the last of February was to allow Gates to present a detailed updated site plan. However, no new site plan was presented. Actually, NO new details of the school were presented.

Please reference the School by name, and if possible, limit your subject matter to the following EPC Review elements:

Need for a new High School in Lutz, "Reasonable Use" of the land, other comprable parcels of property available in Lutz, emergency response, Wetland impact, water usage, sinkholes, septic, noise (amphitheater), stormwater, wildlife, and flooding.

PLEASE, Let Dr. Garrity know how you feel ASAP, DO NOT WAIT! I believe Gates may submit their plans for approval in the VERY near future (possibly within days). His contact information is listed below.

Dr. Richard D. Garrity
Executive Director
Environmental Protection Commission of
Hillsbororough County

If you "cc" a copy to me at my address below, I will maintain a back up copy of the emails.

Again, THANK YOU for defending YOUR community from inappropriate and unnecessary growth.

EPC Community Mtg.
Re: Gates Middle/High School at Sunset Lane & Hwy. 41

The EPC community meeting regarding the Gates Middle/High School, proposed for Sunset Lane & Hwy. 41, is scheduled for Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Lutz Elementary cafeteria, from 6:15pm - 7:45pm.

This meeting is in response to the many letters, faxes, phone calls and emails from YOU, the concerned residents of Lutz, to the EPC! The EPC is also trying to arrange to have representatives from the Hillsborough County Dept. of Transportation attend.

PLEASE, make every effort to attend (and bring a friend or neighbor).

We will schedule at least two LCC membership meetings prior to the EPC meeting in order to prioritize and "fine tune" our presentation. This will perhaps be our best opportunity to present our concerns regarding the traffic, wetlands, storm water, flooding, water use, septic, etc.

Should you have any ideas, suggestions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know! SPREAD THE WORD!! "NO SCHOOL ON SUNSET LANE"!

Community Input survey regarding the EPSC

As a result of the December 13th BOCC Workshop on the EPSC, a 60 day period has been granted to collect community input. Hillsborough County has compiled an online survey regarding the EPSC. The link below goes directly to the Survey. We have received several emails since last night complaining that the Survey is too: screwewd, convoluted, and technical.
http://www.hillsboroughcounty.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=568

PLEASE TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO COMPLETE THE SURVEY, AND PLEASE EMAIL THE LCC AT: admin@lutzcitizenscoaltion.com, AND LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

We, as well as other UCAN Chapters, will be relaying to our Commissioners that this does NOT represent an adequate mechanism for true community input.

Hwy. 41 Medians

There is a meeting between Hillsborough County, FDOT, and Lutz residents scheduled for Thursday, January 24, 6:30PM, at the Lutz Community Center (in front of the Library) to identify and discuss available options to maintaining the Hwy. 41 medians as is.
PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND.

CALL TO ACTION
STATUS: CANCELED

Dear Lutz Neighbors,
Tomorrow's demonstration at the Hwy. 41 Apex HAS BEEN CANCELED!

I received an email from Ray Chiaramonte (Executive Director of the HC Planning Commission) that assures me that the scheduled alteration of the Hwy. 41 medians are NOT going to go forward until there can be a meeting between the County and Lutz residents to identify available options for maintaining the medians.
I'm sorry, but I have not been available by cell phone and do not expect to be until tomorrow afternoon, but please feel free to contact me via email.
I look forward to working with each of you in preserving our Lutz quality of life.
CONGRATULATIONS!
After seeing the orange ribbons and paint markings on the trees in the medians on Hwy. 41 in Lutz, we contacted Steve Valdez, with Hillsborough County Public Works.
Mr. Valdez relayed that the trees marked with orange ribbon will remain, but trees marked with a painted "X", all shrubs, and ground cover, will be removed from the medians on Monday, January 13. This is due to the private landscaper, who maintained the medians for the past 4 years, is now unable to do so. As a result, the State mandated that the medians go back to State Standards.
No attempts to make the public aware. No notice given. No opportunity to find an equitable solution. Just tear tear out beautiful Crepe Myrtles, shrubs, and ground cover and replace them with bahia grass.
Mr. Valdez also relayed that because this is scheduled to happen on Monday, January 13, there is not enough time for community groups, citizens, etc., to intervene. According to Mr. Valdez, it's a "done deal".
We learned this afternoon, that Ray Chiaramonte, Executive Director of Hillsborough County Planning Commission, is upset about this situation and shares our concerns.
We need to let Ray know that, should he decide to intervene on Monday morning, WE STAND BESIDE HIM! Please click on the link below, add your name, and email the letter to Mr. Chiaramonte at rayc@olancom.org.
Letter to Ray Chiaramonte  (The letter is a Word document, so you can add your name before emailing it to him.)
Also, please email a letter to the Board of County Commissioners and express your concerns.
Letter to Board of County Commissioners  (This letter is a Word document, so you can add your name before emailing it.)
PLEASE, GET THESE EMAILS SENT BY MONDAY MORNING!

LET THE HILLSBOUROUGH COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS KNOW THAT WE OPPOSE THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE EPSC, AND THAT WE INTEND TO DEFEND OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY PLANS!
LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!

PLEASE, EITHER COPY/PASTE THE FOLLOWING LETTER OR, WRITE YOUR OWN LETTER, AND EMAIL IT TO ALL OF THE BOCC WITH ONE CLICK AT THE FOLLOWING LINK:  https://webapps.hillsboroughcounty.org/bocc/

Honorable Commissioner,

I am a voting citizen of Hillsborough County.

Development in Hillsborough County needs to be better regulated, not less regulated.

I DO NOT want to see our Community Plans relegated to “guidelines". Our local communities wrote these Plans, and we intend to defend them.

I DO NOT trust developers to protect our wetlands.

I DO NOT want any one person in County government to have the power to over-ride or re-write development regulations, or, to have the ability to “Fast Track” inappropriate development projects without affording public input.

We CAN NOT afford to pay for new development infrastructure with our property taxes (by shifting Impact Fees from developers to the public).

Hillsborough County needs higher property values, not cheaper houses. We need better roads, not more traffic. We CAN NOT afford to cut funding or shift the burden to existing homeowners. We need smarter development, not more sprawl. We still have not recovered from the last housing glut that stole our homeowner’s equity.

PLEASE, SHELVE THE ECONONIC PROSPERITY STAKEHOLDERS COMMITTEE REPORT, AND START ANEW WITH A COMMITTEE THAT REPRESENTS ALL THE ECONOMIC STAKEHOLDERS OF HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, AND NOT JUST THE DEVELOPERS!

More development does NOT equate to more jobs, or economic prosperity, it just means more empty and dilapidated buildings and even lower property values.

Respectfully,

Hillsborough County government has just begun to participate in a new website to encourage resident and community input. You can submit new ideas or comment on existing ones. It is a GREAT way to let your voices be heard, the developers are already adding their "two cents" on it, so we had better offer ours also. Check it out at: http://www.idealhillsborough.ideascale.com/
